About Miss Cat Creates

Resources created by a teacher who understands what happens in the classroom.

Hi, I’m Cat — the teacher behind Miss Cat Creates.

I’ve been teaching for more than 20 years, working with students from primary school through to senior secondary. Along the way, I’ve taught Middle School Music and English, Year 11 and 12 Music, worked with students from diverse backgrounds and, more recently, returned to the primary classroom as an Arts teacher.

And I’ve learned something important:

Sometimes the hardest part of a school experience isn’t the learning itself. It’s knowing what to expect.

A new event.

An excursion.

Assembly.

Sports Day.

Book Week.

A performance.

A teacher who isn’t there.

For some children, these ordinary parts of school life can feel anything but ordinary.

That’s where Miss Cat Creates began.

Created by a teacher. Tested in real classrooms.

Every Miss Cat Creates resource begins with a classroom need. I think carefully about the experience a child is going to have, what might be unfamiliar or challenging, and what information could make that experience easier. Then I turn that thinking into resources that are clear, calm and genuinely useful for teachers. Because I know what it's like to be the teacher who needs something tomorrow. You shouldn't have to spend hours adapting a resource before you can use it.

A little bit of Miss Cat magic ✨

I also believe that resources for children should be beautiful without being overwhelming. You'll find gentle illustrations, plenty of breathing space, Australian settings and a little bit of whimsy throughout Miss Cat Creates. And if you look closely, you may even spot Wellie, my very fluffy Ambassador of Calm. 🐈 Miss Cat Creates is about helping children feel ready for whatever comes next — at school and in life. I'm so glad you're here. — Cat

Helping children feel prepared, confident and included.

I create practical, child-friendly resources that help young children understand what is coming, know what to expect and feel more confident participating in school experiences.

My resources are designed with real classrooms in mind — not imagined classrooms.

That means Australian schools. Australian events. Realistic routines. Inclusive choices. And language and images that make sense to the children who will actually be using them.

I pay particular attention to children who can sometimes find school experiences overwhelming, including children who benefit from additional predictability, visual preparation and explicit explanation.

Meet Wellie — the Ambassador of Calm 🐈

Have you ever met a cat so chilled that he will simply roll over and ask for a belly rub? And not only that — it's not a trap. He really does want a belly rub! His Majesty King Wellington I has been a member of our family since we brought him home from an RSPCA shelter about eight years ago. Wellie is the most calm and placid cat you could ever meet — unless, of course, the royal servants are late with the dinner service. He's so naturally relaxed that I started calling him the Ambassador of Calm. And somewhere along the way, Wellie found his way into Miss Cat Creates, too. You'll spot him appearing in some of my social stories, quietly going about his business in the background. His presence isn't just a bit of fun — he's there to help children feel calm and connected. Sometimes a familiar, friendly face is enough to make an unfamiliar experience feel a little safer. And Wellie is very good at being that face. After all, he's had quite a lot of practice at being calm. ❤️
